ANTIWAR RESOLUTION PASSES!

A Letter from Council Speaker Gifford Miller

Dear Fellow New Yorker:

Thank you for contacting my office with regard to Resolution 549-A (the "Resolution"), which addresses the actions of the United States with respect to Iraq. The manner in which our nation proceeds in this situation is a serious matter of great concern to the members of the New York City Council and to the citizens that we represent.

Together with 31 of my colleagues, I sponsored and supported the Resolution, which was adopted by the Council on March 12, 2003. It calls on the United States government to continue to attempt to resolve this crisis through diplomatic and peaceful means.

I hope this sends a clear message that people in the City of New York expect world leaders to take every measure to protect innocent lives. It also makes clear that in the fight against terrorism, we need a strong coalition of international allies to work with us to protect Americans and all people of the world from violence. War must only be a measure of last resort. It is in the best interest of citizens everywhere that world leaders exhaust every conceivable means for a peaceful solution.

I thank you once again for contacting my office with regard to this critical issue.

Sincerely,
GIFFORD MILLER
Speaker, NYC Council
