Urgent Calling Action

CALL SPEAKER, YOUR COUNCIL MEMBER AND JOSE SERRANO TO SUPPORT RESOLUTION 549

**LATE BREAKING UPDATES**

The NY City Council will vote Wednesday, February 26, on Resolution 549-2002  "to oppose the Congressional Resolution allowing ...Bush to unilaterally declare war against Iraq without t he authority of the United Nations, or without evidence that the United States is in imminent danger due to actions by the government of Iraq."

(To read the entire Resolution, go to www.council.nyc.ny.us/textfiles/Res%200549-2002.htm)

Cardon A. Stolzman, legislative assistant to Bill Perkins, has stated that BP is making several changes in Res. 549-2002 that do not destroy the integrity of the document, and that our many calls to the Speaker's office had led Gifford Miller to schedule a vote on the Resolution for Wednesday.

Cas thanked us and asks that we continue to call the Speaker (212.535.5554) and also  call Jose Serrano, Chair of the Cultural Affairs, Libraries & International Intergroup Relations Committee,  (718.788.7384), and CALL OUR OWN COUNCIL MEMBERS.

To find your council member and telephone number, go to www.nypirg.org and clicking on "Who Represents Me?" on the lower left.

COUNCIL ANTI-WAR VOTE POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 12!

Last night (March 5th) Council Member Perkins spoke about 549-A at the rally in Washington Square Park. He passionately urged everyone to call Speaker Miller-- 212- 788-7210 and all the other Members, especially your own. He said the vote will be on the 12th. As far as I know Jennings, Cultural Affairs Committee, is still on the fence--212-788-6850 , or 718-657-4787.
