        Will Gather on Concourse and
March Over Nearby Bridge Into Manhattan

Bronxites from all over the borough will join together in their opposition to war on Feb. 15. At 10:30 a.m. people from Riverdale to Co-op City, Norwood to Hunts Point will meet at 149th Street and the Grand Concourse and then march across the 145th Street in Manhattan.
The gathering, organized by Bronx Action for Justice and Peace, will feature many other groups and organizations who share the belief that war with Iraq is wrong and that it will make America less safe, not more.
"An unprovoked war on Iraq will not only needlessly kill American soldiers and Iraqi citizens, it will siphon precious resources from our neighborhoods and our city," said Wanda Salaman, director of Mothers on the Move, a Hunts Point community organization.
The march over the bridge into Manhattan may be unprecedented. While demonstrators frequently have traversed the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, it is likely there has never been a march from the Bronx into Manhattan.
"Bronx residents from all walks of life, and all our neighborhoods, are gathering together and joining with fellow citizens from all over the world to make it clear to the Bush Administration that war with Iraq is wrong and that it will make our country more prone to terrorism, not less," said Heidi Hynes, a member of Bronx Action for Justice and Peace.
Bronx Action for Justice and Peace is a group of concerned Bronx residents from many different backgrounds who came together after the Sept. 11 tragedies to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts in the world. More information can be found at www.bronxpeace.org
